TEAMWORK WILL MAKE WOLLONGONG SHINE
Wollongong, Australia – 18 September, 2025
With less than a month to go to the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals (15–19
October), the City of Wollongong is buzzing with excitement as organisers, government
agencies, businesses and volunteers put the finishing touches on preparations for one of the
biggest international sporting events Wollongong has ever hosted.
Event Director Luke Palmer said that for more than 18 months, organisers and all levels of
government have been working behind the scenes to ensure the event is an inclusive, safe,
successful and memorable event for everyone.
“Being able to put on an event of this complexity and international importance is a testament
to the support, skill, passion and dedication of a large number of people. Everyone has been
working in sync with our team to ensure the event meets the highest standards of community
safety, operational and transport planning, risk management, counter-terrorism and
environmental management.”
“While the athletes from across Australia and the globe are in their final stages of
preparation, from an organisational perspective the last pieces of a very large jigsaw are
also beginning to be put into place. Thanks to a rigorous, multi-agency approval process
involving NSW Government, Destination NSW, Wollongong City Council, and all relevant
state government authorities, Wollongong is ready to shine on the world stage.”
“I would like to thank everyone who has been involved so far and call on local businesses
and the community to get behind what is going to be a truly remarkable event that will
showcase the city, the community spirit, and the incredible coastline to the world.”
Mr Palmer said that during the World Triathlon Championship Finals there will be important
temporary changes that will affect access, parking, and traffic arrangements in Wollongong.
“To ensure the safety of competitors, spectators and the community, some temporary car
park closures, road closures and special event clearways will be in place throughout the
event.”
“We encourage everyone to come down and be part of the action, cheer on the world’s best
triathletes, enjoy family friendly entertainment, and experience the electric atmosphere but
please allow for extra travel time and follow all signage and detours in place,” he said.
